Business to Business Magazine
NEWS CRITERIA
Relevant to readership – local angle or sector angle if a business story aimed at trade press.
Benefits – explain how the story affects either the organisation or the community the publication serves.
Details – clear, concise and comprehensive.
Provide the basics – who, what, where, when and why – of the story you would like to see published. Then let the editor decide how to proceed with it. The editor’s decision is final, as they say…
Photos – editors prefer to illustrate a story wherever possible.
Personal – the person involved in the story/feature may be local rather than the organisation or community that is affected. A ‘personal’ angle always improves a story (a case study, perhaps).
Interest – the story has to be of interest to the readership for the editor to consider it for publication. Criteria: if it was not about you, your company, your community or your business sector, would you read it?
Non-commercial. Any article that involves a commercial message will not be considered for publication. It will, however, be referred to the advertising sales department and may be published as a paid-for piece.
If in doubt, ask. Telephone the publication and clarify whether or not they would be interested in the story you would like published.
